After deciding to go with a homeless shelter design, we began evaluating the most important aspects we must consider when creating a design. We came up with a sort of rubric to test each of our designs against to determine which design is the most logical and functional.
We decided there were five main characteristics our design had to include.
1. Miscellaneous Needs
- Water/weather proof
- Durable
- Ventilation
- Inexpensive production
- Sanitary
2. Transportation
- Easy to transport
- Easy to carry
- Light weight
- Functional
3. Security
- Reduces risk of crime
- Personal items are safe and hard to access via break-ins
4. Privacy
- Private changing area
- Enclosed
- Secluded
5. Storage
- Large area to store valuables away from sight
- Area to stack other items within
